Our Approach: Four Pillars

We combine research, innovation, and practical outreach to ensure voters are informed, registered, and ready to vote. Our work is grounded in four core pillars that guide our work across North Carolina.

1. Trusted Voter Information

We provide clear, accurate, and nonpartisan voter information that North Carolinians can rely on. Our goal is to reduce confusion and make the voting process easier to navigate. We translate complex election rules into simple, accessible guidance for voters across the state. Through digital tools, resources, and direct outreach, we connect people to the information they need to register and vote with confidence. As a trusted, nonpartisan source, we help ensure voters have access to facts, not misinformation.

2. Future Voters Network

The Future Voters Network (FVN) engages high school students in civic participation by equipping them with tools, resources, and support to lead voter registration efforts in their schools and communities. Students take an active role in educating and engaging their peers, building confidence before they reach voting age. Through student-led initiatives, FVN helps normalize civic participation early. We partner with schools and educators to provide ready-to-use materials and ensure all efforts remain nonpartisan and accessible. By investing in young people, we are building a stronger pipeline of informed and engaged future voters.

3. Data-Informed Outreach

NCVP uses voter file and census data to identify eligible voters who are unregistered or infrequent voters. We reach them through nontraditional channels, primarily text messaging, which allows for direct, two-way communication. This approach is faster, more cost-effective, and more scalable than traditional outreach methods. Texting helps us connect with voters who may not otherwise receive or respond to traditional outreach like mail or canvassing. As a nonpartisan organization, we provide trusted information and create space for meaningful engagement. Our outreach focuses on both voter registration and turnout, helping more North Carolinians take part in elections.

4. Research & Continuous Improvement

Research and testing are central to our work. We use data and randomized trials to evaluate what strategies are most effective and to continuously improve our outreach. Our team is exploring new data sources, including youth-focused datasets, to better identify and reach eligible voters under 29-years-old. We assess each data source for accuracy, coverage, and impact on registration outcomes. By segmenting audiences and refining our approach, we can improve efficiency and reach more voters. This commitment to evidence-based strategies ensures our work is both effective and scalable.
