Speaker Series: Faith & Democracy Night
We had the honor of hosting NYT Bestseller Dr. Tim Tyson, author of The Blood of Emmett Till and Blood Done Sign My Name, and a Scholar in Residence at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, as our guest speaker on Wednesday, May 21, at the Rialto Theater in Raleigh. He was joined by Reverend Elijah McDavid, a dynamic speaker from Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as gospel singer, historian, and educator Mary D. Williams.
Rev. McDavid, originally from Virginia, is a magna cum laude graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta and a graduate of Union Theological Seminary in New York City. He currently serves as Senior Pastor at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church, where he has grown the congregation from 500 to 1,500 members in a relatively short time.
Both speakers discussed how faith and democracy intersect in 2025—and why your vote matters more than ever.
However, the opinions expressed by the speakers are their own and do not represent the endorsed views of NC Voter Project. We merely provided a forum for those ideas to be known to the public in the tradition of civic discourse.
Thank you to everyone who attended. For those who were unable to join us, we invite you to watch the video attached above.
