When it comes to voter registration, we are proud to be one of the most innovative organizations in North Carolina. Driven by a sense of urgency as we approach the 2026 election and beyond, we are committed to reaching every eligible voter in North Carolina.
Our focus is on leveraging technology and educational messaging to improve registration rates and increase voter turnout. According to the NC State Board of Elections (as of 4/15/24), one in four eligible voters in North Carolina—about two million people—are not registered to vote. We’re working to identify and engage as many of these individuals as possible.
Consider these recent margins in presidential elections in North Carolina:
-
2008: Margin of 13,692 votes
-
2012: Margin of 92,004 votes
-
2016: Margin of 173,315 votes
-
2020: Margin of 74,483 votes (just 1.3% of the total)
-
2024: Margin of 183,048 votes (that’s a 3.2% difference)
In 2024, a NC Supreme Court Justice won by just 734 votes out of 2.7 million cast in their favor—a reminder that every vote truly counts.
As our board member, former appellate judge Wanda Bryant, often says:
“We can no longer afford to do things the same old way and expect different results.”
That’s why we’re taking a fresh, data-driven, and cost-effective approach to registration and turnout—working to shift the mindset of unregistered voters who believe their vote doesn’t matter or doesn’t impact their lives.
Part of that fresh approach includes regular review of the North Carolina State Board of Elections website, which remains the nonpartisan, authoritative source for election-related information. Voter registration is only one part of the picture, but it’s a critical first step.
We strongly encourage you to visit www.ncsbe.gov/registering for accurate, up-to-date information about registering to vote. If you have questions that aren’t answered there, feel free to reach out to us at info@ncvoterproject.org—we’re here to help.
